The History of VIA

The staff and teachers welcome you to Victoria International Academy. VIA opened in 2002 with  clear goals: to provide a positive learning environment with small classes taught by TESL Canada-certified and experienced teachers.   

Since 2002, we have worked steadily  to improve the quality of our programs. We constantly check how we are doing by asking  for student feedback, regular testing, and by the number of students that were referred to us by our graduates. All of this feedback supports our claim that VIA is succeeding in meeting our goals and raising the bar for private English education in Victoria.

The founders of the school began their careers teaching English as a Second Language in the 1980's. They gained most of their experience teaching in Asia and taught for various organizations, such as large multi-campus ESL schools, colleges, government agencies, multinational corporations, local school districts, and publishing companies.

In 2005 the VIA TESL Diploma Program received recognition from TESL Canada. The full-time program led to a part-time program. In 2006 VIA opened the VIA Training Centre, and in 2008 the VIA Online TESL Diploma Program received TESL Canada recognition.

As a result of this dedication to excellence by the teachers and staff, students and graduates claim that VIA has a special personality. Our teachers and staff work  hard to ensure that every student receives our best every day in every class.

Small classes, access to teachers inside and outside the classroom, support from staff to help with everything from visas to phone bills, and a friendly yet focused teaching style define VIA as a unique private English school.
